Walking and weight loss: pedometer studies.
Do thinner people walk more, or does walking make people thinner?
Which came first, the chicken or the egg?

The University of Michigan Medical School asked this question. They did a study in which they amalgamated studies from many countries into one large study and analysed it statistically.

These studies involved the use of pedometeres worn by the participants.
A pedometer is a device worn on the hip which measures a step every time the hip moves up or down.

The study found that people who walked lost weight: and the longer they walked (e.g., months rather than weeks) the more they lost.

Our conclusion:
Walking helps with weight loss. (More on weight loss and the heart)

Wearing a pedometer may remind people to be more active, and may help with your positive lifestyle changes.
