Colonoscopy has long been advised as a screening tool for bowel cancer. It may be called for depending on the patient's risk every one to five years as the patient ages.
A new study shows that flat lesions which were previously not seen or ignosed if they were seen are as dangerous as or more dangerous than polyps, mopre likely to turn into cancer at a later date.
This study suggests the use of an indigo dye to highlight flat lesions and biopsy them.
The effect on the previous comparison between the less invasive virtual colonoscopy as an alternative to the unpleasant regular colonoscopy will have to be re-assessed.
